Speed Up Your Job Search with the

Mentoring Program

The comment was collected and shared with permission from the program graduate, Yogesh Raheja.

One of our mentoring program graduates, Yogesh Raheja, was able to secure a job as a Data Scientist at Canada’s largest not-for-profit automobile association after completing the mentoring program at the YMCA.

As a newcomer to Canada, Yogesh had a hard time securing his first job even though he has 20 years of experience in the field. Then he learned that the YMCA Newcomer Information Centre offered a Mentoring Program for newcomers.

When asked how the program helped him, he said, “I met Mr. Chester Fedoruk through YMCA’s Mentoring Program, and I cannot thank him and the program enough. He handheld me and gave numerous critical analyses of my resume, forwarding letters, elevator pitches, and interviews. Through the program, I was further able to give mock interviews to a panel of other industry stalwarts and YMCA representatives, who further sharpened my presentation skills.”

“I will highly recommend the program as this program was the reason that I was able to procure a job in no time.”

We also asked if he got any advice for other newcomers seeking employment in Canada. Here’s what he said, “Every new country has its own culture and its own way of working. Naturally, employers expect that their employees are able to understand and present accordingly. Mentoring and getting references are the best way to improve your presentation and start your career in a new country.”

Lastly, he mentioned, “I highly recommend the program and now look at YMCA not only as a fitness and hostel organization but as an important service to society at large.”

We thank Yogesh for sharing his experience with us and allowing us to share with other newcomers.

To participate in our mentoring program, you must first register with the YMCA Newcomer Information Centre, and meet the eligibility criteria. To learn more about YMCA Mentoring Program, please click here.
