This is an online 4-week course designed to help international professionals enhance their personal and professional success by using effective means of formal and informal communication in the workplace. The Intro to Interpersonal Communication course is a part of the Workplace Communication in Canada (WCC) program offered by The G. Raymond Chang School of Continuing Education at Toronto Metropolitan University.
The course will help participants to:
- Develop skills in active listening, empathy, giving and receiving constructive feedback, and writing effective formal communication documents
- Utilize strategies to effectively deal with conflict in the workplace
- Practice skills in writing formal documents such as emails, meeting minutes, and reports
Upon completion of the course, participants will receive a Recognition of completion Certificate from The Chang School at Toronto Metropolitan University
Eligibility Criteria:
*Space is limited on a first-come, first-served basis, prioritizing Permanent Residents and Convention Refugees/Protected Persons.
- Newcomers in Ontario with a Permanent Resident or Convention Refugee/Protected Person status. Individuals with the following immigration status are also welcome to apply:
- Naturalized Canadian citizen
- Provincial nominee under the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (excluding those under the International Student Stream)
- Refugee claimant with a 900-series Social Insurance Number and an open work permit
- CUAET visa holder with a 900-series Social Insurance Number and an open work permit
- Temporary work permit holders who have received confirmation from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) that they meet the eligibility requirements for permanent residence (approval in principle)
- Be a member of the YMCA GTA Newcomer Information Centre
- Have a minimum of CLB Level 6 or IELTS Level 5.5 on all four skills
- Be committed to completing the course
